CPC continues its tradition of quality, innovative services with the addition of Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to its adult services.
After many weeks of self-study and preparation, CPC's DBT team completed a ten-day training program on this best practices treatment by Behavioral Tech in Massachusetts. As a result, CPC is the only behavioral healthcare agency in Monmonth County to offer this type of therapy, which is especially effective for those with chronic suicidal or other severe, self-harm behaviors like self-cutting. Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), developed by Marsha Linehan, Ph.D., ABPP, at the University of Washington, is a comprehensive cognitive-behavioral treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD). Research has shown DBT to be effective in reducing suicidal behavior, psychiatric hospitalization, dropout from treatment, substance abuse, anger and interpersonal difficulties. CPC is one of eight approved DBT facilities in New Jersey. Staff training will continue so that this effective therapy can be applied to other programs that help adolescents and adults who struggle with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, or alcohol and drug problems. |
